The Government is trying to encourage a higher percentage of students to be trained in science subjects, Nature Education Online is supporting this view by exposing the public to the wonders of nature and what we can learn from it. Nature attractions offer environmental education experiences but not every student has the privilege to visit natural areas, like Taman Negara or FRIM. Also, excessive visits to natural areas have been shown to create negative impacts to the eco-systems. Nature Education Online brings nature and its interpretation into digital forms to serve as a reference point for the public in effort to enhance nature awareness.
The activities could be grouped into three main tasks: Data compilation, Development of the application and Training. Trainings can further be divided into two, in Information Computer Technology (ICT) and the Eco-Garden development. A competition would be held for the best websites featuring the Eco-Gardens, to encourage commitments.
The project will provide nature interpretation through ICT. The target communities for the project are five secondary schools in the state of Selangor. The students in the participating schools would be able to start their own nature appreciation projects in the school compounds, through establishments of Eco-Gardens. At the same time teachers and students will be trained in ICT that at the end of the project, every schools would have their own website featuring the Eco-Gardens.
